Baby looks good!

Back in April, we bought a hard shell dinghy to replace our old Avon. This is a center console with a 15 hp, four stroke, electric start Mercury outboard and we thoroughly enjoy it. We named her Baby since she's the tender for a mother ship.

However, the previous owner slathered on a thick coat of ablative paint that gets all over everything that touches it. We don't need ablative paint because it doesn't stay in the water overnight.

It started out looking like this:


We looked around and found a shop to remove the ablative paint and put on a nice coat of gelcoat. We added the bimini top ourselves and this is the final result:


A big shout out to Rian Mondriaan from Mondo Marine in Sarasota, FL for doing excellent work on the fiberglass! Great job, Rian. If any of you Florida West Coasters need some fiberglass work done, we highly recommend him.

Looks great! I sometimes wonder if one day I'll tire of inflatables and go back to a hard dinghy. Seeing your "Baby" pushed me a little farther along that road.

That would be the ideal dinghy if weight wasn't an issue. I bought a newish second hand dinghy recently- a 2.2 metre Devil Cat. It's a bit heavy (30 kgs or more) and expensive ($600) so I'm feeling a little buyer's remorse.



Now I just need to find a made in Japan Achilles LT-2 that has hardly been used.
