Re: Heavy weather running backstays

Usually above 20 knots with half furled Genoa.

With higher winds I completely furl Genoa, then can furl staysail if needed.

Good luck

Has anyone reported problems with the way it is now?

Re: Heavy weather running backstays

Do it! In conjunction with the staysail shroud, the running backstays really helped. I used special high-tech line with high strength and little stretch, easily tied of at the base of the mast when not in use. These lines were run through blocks on deck near the cockpit, and I had a coule of lines that I connected to the stays with shackles and then tensioned on a cockpit winch and secured in a jam cleat. I circumnavigated over 15 years of sailing, and there were many times when I was just more confident having them, and a couple times when I really needed them.
