Beneteau Oceanis 411 Celebration - Rigging for cruising chute or asymetric
Hello,
We have a 411 Celebration. There is no rigging for a spinnaker or cruising chute. Just wondering what other owners have implemented to allow them to fly an asymmetric or cruising chute.
The only product we have found is made by trogear and is very expensive with a fairly complex installation and modification needed.
Thanks for any ideas.
Cheers
Stephen

Not a 411, but a Bene 473.
Fitted a 4 inch diameter Selden bow sprit with a Karver top down furler.
Bit awkward due to the raised anchor locker hatch, but is doable.
The bow sprit ring bracket is bolted to the port side bow roller and inboard end of the pole attaches to a D ring offset to the port side of centre line, which did end up with the outboard end of the pole being right on the centre line.
A friend turned up a couple of stowage brackets which I fitted stanchion brackets to and the pole stows on the inboard side of the stanchions when not in use.
Single handed, takes me about 20 minutes to rig pole and hoist the gennaker.
Ring bracket bolted to port side bow roller
Pole in stowed position
gennaker in use, have fitted a Selden adjustable swivel, the downhaul utilises a couple of single sheave blocks to make adjusting the tack a lot easier, especially in a fresh breeze.

Nigel,
Thanks for this. As you say the Anchor locker design on these boats does get in the way. I can see what you have.
I didn't think the Anchor Bow Roller was suitable for uploads? Although it does look quite substantial on these boats.
Beneteau offers no suggestions.
Thanks for sharing your design.
Cheers

Hi Stephen, Selden told me they know of a number of Bene's where the bow sprit is fixed to the bow roller, same as with Jeaneau.
Cheers

Thanks Nigel,
I have seen other pictures of various attempts at putting a bowsprit out the front.
The Trogear product is a very elegant solution a little complex maybe but as an engineer, I can appreciate the approach just not the price!
Cheers

I came here to mention the Selden Sprit and Nigel beat me to it. That's the way to go in this case!

I am really not convinced that this product is the answer on a 411 as the Anchor Locker is a significant issue in the bow.
If you have a 411 please and have implemented this solution please send pictures of your installation with rigging.
Cheers

Have seen pictures of the Selden Sprit fitted to a Bene 423.
In my case, yes, the sprit does interfere with the windlass hatch when in place, but still allows the hatch to open enough to operatre the windlass.
In my case, I checked the Selden website to ascertain the size of the bow sprit needed, then got hold of a length of plastic drainage pipe of the same diameter and experimenated with the placement.
Cheers

Yeah the 473 is significantly bigger in the bow than the 411. we almost bought one but decided it was a bit too big for single handed or just 2 of us so went for the 411 Celebration which is an awesome yacht.

Can you please post a picture (or a couple pictures) of your bow area and I will edit them to show how I would do the install?

Re: Beneteau Oceanis 411 Celebration - Rigging for cruising chute or asymetric
Hi Stephen,
I just happen to be about 50 meters away from a Bene 411, and I can see the issue with regards to a bow sprit, the forward stanchions of the pulpit are so close to the bow roller that they limit options.
Way I see it is that you have three options
1) Trogear, very expensive (I looked at that option myself), probably mean hauling the boat and depending on where you are, may need to undertake work in a boat shed. It will add no value to the boat.
2) Selden Sprit, bracket over the port side bow roller and the inboard 'D' Ring fitted just ahead of the forward hatch. This would be the simplest method.
3) Selden sprit, but inboard end 'D' ring on the main deck. Would need to do some drastic fabrication work on the pulpit, remove the forward stanchions of the pulpit, fit a cross brace and then a short stanchion from the cross brace down to the flat bar which connects the port and starboard bow rollers.
Having the sprit mounted over the anchor locker hatch is not really a big issue, just need to de-rig the sprit before going to anchor.
Cheers
Nigel

Hi gents, I posted a question on the forum regarding a BENE 411 Celebration owners manual. One of you owns the same boat and probably could help if possible. Thanks in advance!
