Spectra Ventura 150 Clark Pump ?

I have an older model Ventura 150 that had the Clark pump factory rebuilt in 2007. Over the years the pressure has been slowly dropping and after being pickled for the past 5 months is now running about 35lbs. With a 4lb shift.

I have detailed tracking info and for many years it has been running about 50lbs. A new shurflo pump was installed last year with no noticeable difference on pressure.

There is sometimes a small squeal noise on the shift.

PPM is now climbing and about 350ppm

Total hours on the unit is > 1000

Have traded some emails last year with Katadyn and they are suggesting that the clark pump should be rebuilt.

I have an older rebuild seal and o-ring kit that is 12 years old. I thought I read that the newer rebuild kits have a different type of o-rings that will last longer.

Do the newer o-ring and seal kits have new improved O rings?

Is there a online manual available that would show the steps required to install new seals and o-rings? Is so can you point me to it on the web?

Thanks for your comments

Chuck

It sounds like the pump should be looked at. It's most likely scored pistons and cylinders. Replacing all the seals won't help this issue. The seals that are different would be included with a new kit.

Re: Spectra Ventura 150 Clark Pump ?

Thank you for the reply.

Have ordered the new seal and oring kit that our son will bring down this weekend. No spectra reps here Tellie - Not thinking about coming to Tahiti for a vacation soon are you?

I guess there is no way to determine exactly how bad the unit is until I tear it apart. Any suggestions for trouble shooting?

Thank you

Chuck

Re: Spectra Ventura 150 Clark Pump ?

The first and most important issue is the cylinders and pistons. Those are the first to come off any way. I would pull them now before your son takes off just in case. New cylinders are not included in a rebuild kit. Here is my business cell if you need any help in removing the cylinders or during any stage of the rebuild. J.T. Tellie thanks for the suggestion but it’s too late for the kids as they are flying this weekend.

I did receive a rebuild manual from Katadyn and will pull the unit apart after the family leaves. Thanks so much for your suggestions and help
