Low hot water pressure.

Before i dig into the plumbing, thought i might see if anyone has had the same issue.

For the longest time, hot and cold pressure was the same.

In the last month, hot side pressure is much lower, spurts out as the pump cycles.

Cold side no change.

Force 10 5 gallon tank ( i think) 120 volt with heat exchanger.

I'm thinking a restriction in the tank or lines.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Re: Low hot water pressure.

Is there a pressure relief valve with a lever?
Pull the lever until water flows from the overflow.

Re: Low hot water pressure.

Is there a hot water mixer at the tank? Many have a screen in them that can clog, then reduce water flow.

Re: Low hot water pressure.

I had a screw back out of the washer in the hot water faucet. let the washer get side ways and reduce flow. Happened a couple of times causing me to take apart and tighten the screw until I replaced the faucet set.

Re: Low hot water pressure.

Low pressure hot water at all outlets or just a certain one or two?
I have recurring low pressure on the hot water side of the shower. After tearing everything apart looking for a line blockage I found the culprit to be the valve assembly of the shower mixer itself...tends to unscrew itself internally so it can't retract to admit water flow, and mysteriously only the hot side. Remains shut enough that the hot water pressure can't compete with the cold. (Only happens when thoroughly lathered and shampoo-ed of course) Any chance your mixer/taps are by Scandvik or Ambassador? Might check/reseat those valves...

Re: Low hot water pressure.

Just now got a chance to look at it, happy to say I've been cruising not working on the boat daily. No screen in the mixing valve. The pressure issue is at all faucets. It may be a restriction at a valve i put in line to the hot water side(pex, crimped in) but I'll need some stuff from the hardware store to look at that. Currently in port st joe, fl waiting on the weather. I'll update when I work on it again.

Thanks for the advice.

Re: Low hot water pressure.

Found the problem. There were two screens in the inlets to the tempering valve, didn't see them until I completely disassembled the valve. The hot water inlet screen was clogged with lime scale, delimed and I'm back in business.
