Japanese Bidet Toilet Seats

Has anyone installed one of these bidet seats on their boat? The only issues I see are they use electricity to heat the water before you get the splash. Any other issues? Just curious thanks

Is this one of the singing ones? Fairly flashy splashy things.

I’m a fan…

You really do not need the heat. This is nothing like taking a cold shower, even less noticeable than washing hands with cold water, IMO. And the cold water on a boat is actually 80F, vs. actually cold here in the winter.

(I have a bidet in my home)

Yes some of them do sing. Some play 'white' noise so you can fart away. So if you don't need the heat wouldn't installing one lower the chance of plugging up your toilet with too much paper being flushed down?

Better simpler. Just install a hand bidet nozzle next to the toilet. The kind all Finnish toilets have. That Japanese stuff is way too complicated.

This is a really good idea. Would save a lot of fresh water, from people running the tap for audio purposes.

The Japanese ones (mine is actually Korean) are great for home. I love the heated seat, and I love the hot water (my incoming water at home is bloody cold in the winter), but I don't think a good solution on all but the biggest boats.

Too much power use, even without the heater, just to run the pump. Its probably going to need to use fresh water as well, otherwise the little motorized nozzle will jam from salt.

On my 2nd toilet at home I simply have something that looks like a tiny shower wand plumbed into the tank feed line with a simple ball valve on it. Perhaps do something like that?

On our boat the shower head is removable and long enough to suffice. Otherwise maybe fabricate something from a pump up sprayer bottle (think like for insect spray) and a cheap kitchen sink sprayer?

That's the Finnish system. Google "hand bidet". Simple and practical, perfect for a boat.

Re: Japanese Bidet Toilet Seats

If you are in the tropics, shouldn't need heat. If you do any cruising in colder weather though...an icy spray up the backside might not be too pleasant.

We are in thailand for a couple months and the apartment has one. It doesn't have a power cord. I haven't pulled it apart to see how it works but I believe it uses a spring loaded wand with water pressure extending the wand when activated.

The biggest issue I see is your standard marine head is sized for a 10yr olds backside. So household sized unit wouldn't fit. A kitchen sink sprayer is a cheap and easy solution but it's not quite the same.

Re: Japanese Bidet Toilet Seats

I've got a S. Korean electric bidet at home (this is my 2nd one in 22 years), NOT on my 32 ft boat. It would definitely not work with salt water!

I've had it apart for maintenance. They are fairly complex: a couple of circuit boards, a pump, a heater in the tank, a motor with cogged belt for extending the wand. Mine uses 220 AC at 50 hertz. I don't know the amp draw, but I don't think it is huge.
I know they are used on super yachts; in fact, that is where I first saw one about 25 years ago. They simply bolt onto a standard china toilet bowl in place of a normal toilet seat. The ones I saw on super yachts were on top of electric heads.
My girlfriend loves the heated seat in winter! When the power goes out in storms, that's the thing she misses most.

Re: Japanese Bidet Toilet Seats

Great info. I was just curious because I've plumbed and added an outlet below my house toilet and I am set to get one installed now. Thanks

With a Raritan Fresh Head, you plumb pressurized fresh water to the head and we could fit a bidet on a standard size marine head. Only uses the pressurized water for spraying and no heat. Very civilized.

They do make a house hold size of the Fresh head if your stuff doesn't fit into the marine size.
