Hot water heater connections for Universal M-25

I would like to plumb my 6 gal. hot water heater to my Universal diesel in order to make hot water while making way under power. My question is where are the best locations to tap into the diesel's cooling system for the inlet and outlet hoses from the water heater? Diesel system is a typical closed coolant system with a heat exchanger.

Re: Hot water heater connections for Universal M-25

Hi,

I would be interested to know if you found an answer to this question....

I have a Isotemp hot water system running off my UNIVERSAL M25XP.

It works fine on shore power, but hardly at all once underway - I wonder if it was plumbed correctly ?

It looks like the water heater is tapped into the coolant circuit at the thermostat housing and again at the coolant header tank.

Does this sound correct ?

Thanks

That sounds like it should work. I haven't had anyone reply up to now and have since installed a new M25xp in the boat and I'm hesitant to plumb it to a god knows how old hot water heater that should it fail while underway could be problematic. I will probably wait until the old water heater gives up the ghost or the decibel level of the girlfriend's complaints increases significantly.
