PM me an email address and I'll send you the ABYC Propane Standard
in a pdf.

I will read the abyc (i live in EU though) but anyways, reading around, looks like the rubber hose is very commonly used with no problems at all even after many years......seems the way to go

Just saw this.
Since you live in Europe you are in a different kettle of fish.
Compliance with Recreational Vessel LPG standards are mandatory.

You will have serious issues if you do not comply.

We used heavy duty flexible hose with barrier constructions to convey our propane gas and connected it with threaded hose fittings for compressed gas (Reusabe fittings, they are also known as CGA (Compressed Gas Association) fittings.

This hose is strong, durable and self closing in case of fire. The fabric cover also holds up well in outdoor use. The fittings are easy to install. All of these pieces are available over the counter as are 'T' fittings shut off valves and pressure gauges. Our propane system had been in use for 35 years and has been leak and chafe free. Vibration does not affect flexible hose.

You will be told that this is not a project for DIY and may not meet ABYC standards. Professional advice and assistance is useful. Our marine propane equipment dealer pointed us in the right direction.

Re: Best water heating option on cat with outboard?

We spend most of our cruising time off grid in remote areas so our propane is precious and we would rather use it to brew beer than heat shower water. With that in mind we have always used a simple 2 gallon garden sprayer setup.

You paint the sprayer flat black, replace the high pressure nozzle with a kitchen sink sprayer head and leave it in the sun. In the tropics it gets almost too hot to use in just a couple of hours. In the higher latitudes or rainy weather we often need to heat up a teapot's worth of water on the stove and then add it to the sprayer. We shower in the cockpit inside a portable enclosure which blocks the wind, provides privacy and keeps all the humidity out of the cabin. On windless days we simply use the forward cockpit.

Re: Best water heating option on cat with outboard?

We’ve installed and used quite a few propane on demand water heaters, none with the venting flue. When installing we considered the dangers involved and installed them in a well ventilated area.
On our current catamaran I couldn’t find a good place to install a propane model so went with a small 110v Bosch that runs of our Honda 2000 generator.
On all the propane water heaters that we installed we teed of the propane tank and not the propane line for the stove.
This was our favorite on demand propane water heater, worked like a charm.

It almost looks like camping.

We just walk into the shower and turn it on like in a house, at anchor or underway. It's very nice to take a hot shower just before you arrive in port after sailing for a few days. Our propane tanks last about 21 days (used for cooking, washing, and showers). We have two of them. We've always been able to get one filled before the other one runs out, everywhere in the world that we've been, and it is cheap.

[QUOTE=tamicatana;3694092]I have 760W of solar, 400aH of LFP, and two of these heat my water if I haven't run the engines that day:

I’ve got a Truma gas / electric water heater. It works a charm. 33 ft catamaran. Use shore power at dock. Propane at sea.

And of course you ignored the part in the manual that says use prohibited in a marine environment.
Do you know something the manufacturer does not ?

No. I have a BM14 installed. It’s a boat boiler.

Just be aware , gas installations above and beyond what the manufacturer installed cannot be actually diyed or even professionally installed without recertifying the whole boat for CE.

Best check with your insurance first and be led by then.
