Howdy!
You might have better luck adding a reference to refrigeration in the title...
Do you have a list of what was installed?
Richard Kollmann is the resident expert, have you looked at his info?

Before anyone can recommend replacement refrigeration units for a specific boat it is important to know more about the old system how it performed and its manufacturer. Make and model number of compressor can be used to establish a current performance base line for box size and quality of insulation. It also is helpful to know why present units are to be replaced.

As I remember the 410 Hunter in the late 1990s had two boxes side by side with a door on refrigerator and only a lid on freezer. The insulation on boxes was less than three inches of closed cell foam. Some of the 410s had two Adler Barbour units and others had ¼ Hp 12 volt water cooled belt driven compressors with holding plates in each box. Water cooling small 12 volt compressors in tropical seawater in excessive of 80 degrees F is not recommended except on small ice box conversions with keel cooler condensers. Anytime water condenser cooling of small hermetically sealed compressor is used serious consideration must be given to additional compressor cooling.

From your own experience in tropical waters you know that the high energy demand for refrigeration requires a large electrical grid. If you are satisfied with box temperatures with the old systems operating correctly the new systems are unlikely to reduce daily energy demand. If you want to reduce new box temperatures lower than before energy demand will increase 4% per degree of lower thermostat setting for that box.

We do not know any more than we did before as I could not find any reference to Grenette models on the web. Could the manufacture actually be Grunert a sub company product of Demetic. If so I can not reference your model numbers either.

Here is what we do know about your refrigerator:
Seawater pump problems.
It has a single plate in freezer with a spillover refrigerator.

This is information anyone will need to know before correctly recommending a replacement system:
When operating normally in the past was the present systems performance satisfactory?
Was the old system powered by 12, 24 or AC power and how many amps did it draw?
What parentage of the time did compressor run?
What is the size of refrigerated box or boxes?
What is age and amount of present insulation surrounding refrigerated area?

Without answers to the above questions your chances of being satisfied with a new system are risky. Most suppliers selling boat refrigerators have selection charts for different size well insulated ice box conversion refrigeration but knowing more about the system you are replacing will be a big help to person recommending a unit.

Re: 410 Hunter 1998

Interesting bit of thread necromancy, but I'll chip in. We tore out the two Adler Barbour units on our 1993 Legend 40.5, converted the old units to food cabinets, then installed secure mounts for a $500 80 cubic-inch portable 12V icebox in place of the useless settee table. Never been happier. 38F in less than 20 minutes at 80F ambient and less than 2A max power draw compared to 20 before.

Re: 410 Hunter 1998

They all use the same compressors. It is just “packaging” differences really.

My 2001 410 has its original AB system with a BD50 compressor. This was was right at the time they decided to get away from the water cooled system and my manual still said mine had that. It is by far the number complaint of 410 owners so am surprised your 1998 model still has.

It was the spillover system like all and the freezer would frost up too fast and I finally separated the boxes and installed an Isotherm VE-150 in the refrigerator side.

Both systems have ha the mechanical thermostt epkaced with the $12 chibesse electronic ones.
