I did this already and the difference between 40 and 50 is just the house and -of course - new parts which replace old ones. But nothing that noticeable that it should prevent me from changing.

my engine has an maximum power output of 50ps (4JH4e). That is the upper limit?

Is it that simpel? Are the old housings not good?
Then I have to ask myself why Yanmar is making a new model out of it. For what?
only different s sd40 akcepta one line of engine sd-50 different engine. housing

but simply ask your local yannmar dealer by email. can your engine seria ,serial number go on sd40.

Re: Yanmar SD40 vs. Yanmar SD50

Sorry Cas, I misread your engine model and thought you have a 4JH4 UTE.

Re: Yanmar SD40 vs. Yanmar SD50

no problem at all, Pete. Never heard of an UTE before.

Have wrote an email to Gideon. I'm curious to see whether and how he answers.

Re: Yanmar SD40 vs. Yanmar SD50

Been there, done that got the T-shirt!

Today I got my NOS SD40. In perfekt condition. No corossion, no nothing, just new.
Two (EDIT: no, three!) question still remain:

1. the seals are that elastic, like new ones. Should I test them wirh putting air in it (pressure around 7 - 15 psi?)?

2. The diaphragm are also like new, smooth, no signs of age. Should I really replace them? They where in the box all the time, no UV, no nothing.

3. The anode is made from zinc. My boot is from Alumnium, I would go for a alumnium anode, better?

Re: Yanmar SD40 vs. Yanmar SD50

Hello,
nice to read my name again and again.
As far as I know, the difference in the Saildrive SD40 and SD50 is in the materials of the gears, bearings and propeller shaft.
There is no difference from a serial number from 2004 onwards. The Spare Parts Manual is always a great help here.
