Shaft tube fixable?

Having read some of the posts about shaft tube repair, I am wondering if mine is repairable or should I replace it? Thoughts on how to best do this? See photo.

Re: Shaft tube fixable?

It looks like the tube failed because it became worn very thin on the bottom, probably because the engine settled on its mounts and allowed the shaft to wear thru until failure occurred.

You might be able to repair it by getting a dowel or mandrel of the same size as the interior of the tube, wrapping the dowel with wax paper and building up glass and resin on the dowel. The problem here is getting a good bonding of the new glass onto the old and having adequate overlap to have 100% strength. It's not the location for a marginal repair....

I think of it were mine I would cut or grind out the old tube and replace it with new.
