Shaft coupling

Is anybody familiar with the attached coupling? I need to remove it in order to change my shaft seal. It looks like it may split in two when i remove the ring? or will i need a gear puller? thanks.

I am not familiar with it, but am fascinated (mechanically) by it.

The bronze piece with the ring, is that four pieces?

It looks like a cushioned (shock absorbing) coupling. I don't think removing the ring will allow disassembly in place as it sits. I think the ring secures the bronze pieces in the assembly before installing on the shaft. And those pieces extend into the aluminum housing to engage the cushion rubber.

Granted I don't know, but if the four coupling nuts were removed and the whole assembly and shaft slid rearward. Then the assembly may come forward off the shaft intact.

Very curious, and I'm sure someone will come along that knows for sure.

Wow! Never seen one. The bolts with nuts toward the transmission are the only ones in sight that could handle the shaft torque, so my bet is it comes apart when you remove them and then back the propeller shaft. Backing a propeller shaft? I actually backed mine with a come-along tied between the prop and the trailer hitch ball on my pickup truck. Aligning the hitch with the axis of the shaft was critical, so the pull was straight down the shaft, but it worked.
