Searching for Gearbox Repair

I have a Volvo Penta HS15L-B reversing gearbox that I need repaired. I cannot locate a reputable shop anywhere. Does anyone else know of a good reliable repair facility for this gearbox.

Are you sure it is an HS 15L transmission? HS stands for “hydraulic shift” and I don’t recall any VP hydraulic shift transmission with that nomenclature. VP did make an HS1 transmission, but it was a down angle box ....HS1A

VP did and still does sell an MS 15L transmission. This is a private labeled Hurth/ZF transmission, and if you can’t find a VP dealer to work on it, take a look at the Hurth/ ZF dealer body.

In my experience, these smaller trannies rarely are worth rebuilding. It is usually not practical to do it yourself because many specialized tools are needed, and at $80 to $100 an hour a new one quickly makes more sense.
