McMasters in Atlanta has fiberglass tubes made from epoxy. They are probably very strong and free of voids. Perhaps these could be used.

You also might find the correct OD and ID that you need.

They ship very quickly.

Perhaps you can find local supplier, since Fisheries supply is on the west coast.

Fisheries also sells actual spiral wrap fiberglass stern tubes. It's listed with the Cutlass bearings. The exhaust tubes are not considered structural.

Would just need a mandrel extension. One question....Im in a big rush to do this so would like to use whatever material I can find near where I live to avaoid having to wait for shipping. Is there any reason I couldnt replace the bored out fiberglass stern tube with one that is aluminum or stainless if I can find that easier? And just put some set pins in to hold it in place along with a bunch of epoxy?
Like the previous comment, ss and ally are not good in that position. I used a piece of bronze that I found in a scrap yard and had milled out to the correc dimensions. You could also make your own fg tube in a pinch by wrapping fg cloth saturated in resin around a suitable diameter wooden mandril. Both suggestions are not as great as putting in a new pre-fabricated fg stern tube, but if you are in a bit of a pinch...

filament wound tubing is very strong to start with! the new stern tube will be much stronger than original...

On my Morgan Out island 41 the original stern tube was 2-3/8" OD and just less than 2" ID. and was made with glass cloth. How do I know? I had to replace mine. Also the layup was very dry. I was able to peel some of the layers apart where there wasn't enough resin.

However you decide to fix it, reveal it to the next buyer.

Re: Chunk of stern tube broke...ideas? (photos included)

The fine folks at Porte Cervo boatyard in Sardinia ground out my damaged stern tube and glassed in a fiberglass tube that they had laying around. Then they slipped on a Volvo Shaft Seal for my one-inch prop shaft and I was good to go. Took them 24 hours, including the haulout.

That was 2008, and the repair is still holding up. Make sure the eventual prop shaft gland is sized for both the prop shaft and the OD of the stern tube... https://www.generalpropeller.com/Volvo-Shaft-Seal
