Re: Aquadrive installation

Thanks to everyone who had commented.
It is amazing how much trouble it has been to get this attended to by the original installer. The big problem is that the refit was done in Annapolis and the boat is now in St. Martin. We are making slow progress but so far this is what I have been told by the parties involved:
1. They installed it the same way the old one was installed! (completely new engine and cradle onto which the engine is mounted)
2. We caused it by sailing (not motoring) with a line on the prop!
3. It should be at least 12 degrees out of alignment!
4. Slinging grease out of the boot is normal!
5. Even though no one who has looked at the pictures thinks it is correct, they content it is correct even before they receive information from someone they have picked to examine the installation!
6. They say their workman always does good work even though he did not read the installation instructions, just put it in the place of the old one.
Now I will accept fault. If I had good sense, I would have never bought a boat

Re: Aquadrive installation

Appointed Yanmar dealer is to come to the boat today to give an opinion.
I will keep you informed.
It will be interesting.

Re: Aquadrive installation

The Yanmar dealer in St. Martin came to the boat today and confirmed all of the opinions I received on CF. I really appreciate all the help and advice.
I was repeatedly told it was a proper installation.
With your help I persisted with lots of facts.
Hopefully this will avoid major problems in the future.

Re: Aquadrive installation

My personal view is that I would call up to Mack Boring in Union, NJ and ask to speak to their Aquadrive expert Jim Blaney. Mack Boring is the Yanmar & Aquadrive distributor for much of the northeast and mid Atlantic. If Jim can't give you a definitive answer, nobody can.

Glad we could help... and really appreciate the follow-up, it's sometimes a rather rare bird...

Jim and the team at Mack Boring are great!

My unit was working nicely but the CV joints had welded to the flanges. I was able to take the joints apart and mail the pieces to them. All has worked well for the 5 years of local sailing and 500 hours of operation.

Highly recommend those folks!
