WTB Flats Boat

Hi All -

Looking to purchase a Flats Boat to do some Redfishing on the Gulf Coast. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thinking an 18 - 20 ft. Like a Hewes or something comparable.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Re: WTB Flats Boat

You would probably be better served by a bay boat with a shallow draft. It opens the amount of thing you can do if the flats are working. Florida Sportsman on youtube has some great videos on selecting boats.

Re: WTB Flats Boat

Action Craft makes some great flats boats in that size range. I had a 1720 flyfisher and loved that little boat!!! there is a micro skiff forum that you will see a lot of stuff on. If you decide to go under 18 there are a lot of micros that are great boats, east cape makes some sick ones. Some newer ones on the market as well, cayo, etc...

I have owned two flats boats, the action craft 1720 with a 115 Yamaha and a Lake & Bay Backwater 20 with a 225 HO Etec. Very different animals, both great boats. But if you aren't fishing tournaments and don't need to do crossings of open water, I would look at the smaller Hewes, AC, and micros

If you decide to go bay boat, the Action Craft 2310 is the most versatile bay boat ive ever been on. I actually prefer it to the Yellowfin 24
