Re: Power Catamaran

Interisting and very nice boats these Cats...But, with the Chris White Cat's I've looked at costing from US$ 395,000 to US$ 1,500,000, second hand, they are right out of my price bracket. I now know why Cat Man Do and others are building their own Cats and I'm sure Cat Man Do and the others, will have beaut Cat's when they'er finished building.
I would love a Cat, or a Tri but I would have to build a Cat, ply and West system, and I'm now to long-in-the-tooth to start building any boat so I guess I'll be happy with the mono I end-up with

Yes CMD, I seen that and I do reckon it's a good price.
I believe this 40' Australian Registered Granger Cat at $135 thou' is a better deal (No AU duties or tax) but at the asking price, it is still well out of my price bracket of $80,000AU max. And the owner of that 40' AU cat is firm on his asking price.
Never mind, I don't need the boat tomorrow so I can keep my eyes and my options open.

Re: Power Catamaran

There is a new brand coming out of the middle east called Parallelyachts. Very cool looking power cats , very fast and look a bit different than all the square cats you see around. check out Parallel Yachts - a boat manufacturer specialising in innovative pleasure craft designs, aiming to create a practical, yet exciting product. .The Z10 is very cool looking boat.

Re: Power Catamaran

Hello,
We saw your yacht at Rooney Pt on September 20, 2013. Very sharp looking cat with a sail option that has been added since the post on this forum.
Do you have any additional information about construction, where built, specifications, etc that you can share?
Regards,
Steve Harris

Re: Power Catamaran

Hi Steve,
thanks for the compliment on my boat seen at Rooney Point. I would have been happy to show you the boat if you had come aboard. Maybe next time.
I was un my way home to Bribie Island after my coastal passage up to Lizard Island and back.
As you know WilPower is a Bob Oram design, 10m waterline length by 4m width, allowing me access to 12m mono berths at marinas. Its designed with wave piercing shaped bows. The simple sailing rig was always going to happen.
The roller furled headsail is 26.5 sq m designed by Doyle sails Sunshine Coast Qld as a screecher with high cut clew to clear the cabin and sheets back level with the mast (tabernacle is above the rear main bulkhead)
The 7.5m mast drops forward to be level with the bows (to get under the Bribie Bridge).
I can do all the sailing using one self tailing winch on the roof by standing on the helm seat head and chest through a large hatch on the roof.
To lower & raise the mast I have to get up on the roof but the auto helm keeps me slowly headed into the wind for this. Takes 5-10 minutes to go down then up again for the Bridge.
The lack of mainsail, boom and rigging is a substantial cost saving.
I sail with one motor running. I have crafted a rudder but its not yet fitted. I hope then to be able to sail at 4kts in 10 kt breeze.
Typical motorsailing with apparent wind to 60 degrees is achieved depending on wind gives extra 2nm/hr (eg 7.5 kts using 5.5 L/hr depending on sea conditions.
Typical motorsailing down (wind at 15kts) gives me a boat speed of 7.5 -9 kts using about 0.8L/nm. The fast passage from Tin Can Bay to Bribie on saturday was with reactively no wind, mast down and with both motors at around 3900rpm gave boat speed of 12.5 -15kts using total less than 2l/nm over 9 hours.
Boat is built of DUFLEX (balsa core) took 14 months built in a shed at Burpengary and Ive been working to finish her during last 18/12 including my travels.Hope this satisfies your curiosity.
Happy boating.

Re: Power Catamaran

Hi Doug,

Thanks for all the information. It is a sharp looking yacht and this type of design is something that my wife and I are considering when our current yacht becomes to much to handle.

We were anchored next to you in the Crowther Windspeed 42. We were travelling in company with a Lightwave 38 and relying on their generosity for dinghy transport as ours was not functional.

We are based on the Gold Coast (maybe moving to Manly this year). Perhaps we can catch up next year when we return.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Power Catamaran

There is a 2 day old forum for owners and interested parties in the Motorcat line of power catamarans. Unlike the PDQ, Endeavor, Glacier Bay and others, this boat is designed and built in Poland and is the lightest and most efficient hulled power catamaran on the market. It will achieve 20 kt on just a pair of 50 hp outboards and will be comfortable in off shore conditions. I'm interested is this boat because its design lends itself to diesel-electric propulsion with solar assist.

Here is the brand new forum Motorcat Owners Group • Index page

If you are into trailerable off shore capable power cats, the offerings are increasing due to their economy of operation.

Stay away from Havana 38 Cats. The one brand new one I had seen was falling apart.

52 ft might be a little big, but I like the concept. I would rather see it with a sail or a big solar array on top though. It seems like a great boat for the Great Loop around the East Coast and inland.

Is the price for the 52' boat available?

(The flag is a little over sized in the picture it seems like...)
