Custom built Battery Monitor System via Raspi

I'm considering building a Battery Monitor System (BMS) to connect to my raspi backbone of devices that are monitoring things today, like AC units and vacuflush on off states. The problem I have with the current BMS(Victron Multiplus) is it only gives you current state info. I prefer a log over time in a Database(mariaDB) so I can have historical info.

I've found a device like this that should work with a few mod's like changing out the shunt to a higher value, and then I'll have to breakdown the NMEA data to just what I want. All of this is doable. '

I'm wondering if anyone else has done this and/or have a better idea for a solution.
