Cabo to Hawaii Info ?

I am interested in moving my boat from Mexico (Cabo) to Hawaii. Has anyone else made this trip?
When did you leave and why?
Which island did you land on?
What was your average speed and how many hours did you run?
I interested in any and all information, suggestions or advice

Thanks

Re: Cabo to Hawaii info?

You might have a wait. Very few motor boats could make that journey. What is it ? 2500 miles ?

Re: Cabo to Hawaii info?

Have made Hawaii passage from a few ports on the west coast and they all have their challenges

From Cabo, it is very much doable, but you will really need to study weather patterns before making an offing.

Tropical cyclones months off Mexico if you depart from that latitude.

El-La Nino phases as it very much affects the strength of the Tradewinds and general weather being so close to its origins

For you type of craft I would allow a 35% seaway in fuel consumption given that she will wander in following or quartering seas

Pretty sure the 58 lrc had 4-71's and 2200 + for fuel. Probably a 5000 mile range.

Should do it from Cabo if the weather is right, and besides ya got a pretty fair sea boat under ya !! I do know of the same type vessel a 58ft LRC that went from Van Isl. BC to Hilo non stop(of course non stop LOL what else could he do Im dumb today !) So you should do fine altho I don't know your fuel Capacity, or engine type.

Re: Cabo to Hawaii info?

I've made the passage in our 48' ketch - we left Cabo San Lucas on April 2 (we were reluctant to leave on April Fool's Day) but the conditions were awful so we turned back. Things were much better on the 3rd and we picked up the trade winds just 150 miles southwest of Cabo. Had a good down-wind run most of the way and pulled into Radio Bay on the Big Island after 18 days at sea. The worse conditions we found were sailing from the Big Island to Maui when we found 50 knots of wind in the Alenuihaha Channel - even though the local weather forecast was only calling for 25. After we pulled into Lahina and we were complaining about it to some locals, they smiled, nodded and said, "Always double what the weather forecasters say!"

Fair winds and calm seas.
