If I won the big lottery I would buy a 50' cat because prices on new cats is a mind boggling 1/2 mil...big $$$...
cruising at 35 kts. is about 1/2 speed of these boats. If the seas are smooth I would open it up and run it at $300/hr for 1/4 hr. every now and then...

Re: Baja 38 Special for trip thru Carribbean

Update - I looked at this boat. The cabin was way too small even for a week. Also it would cruise at 32kts and get 1.47 statute miles per gallon. Top speed was 52kts. Kinda slow for a go fast boat.

Gas is between $5.50 - 6.95 gl in most marinas around the Bahamas so calculate your fuel burn and usage. Carry plenty of cash as most marinas tack on another 5% if you charge it.

Re: Baja 38 Special for trip thru Carribbean

I am starting to sour on this type of boat. Just too expensive to run and the cabin is too small.

Next up - motor sail type boats.

You haven't looked very hard if you think sailboats are expensive. With the kinda fuel burn you originally talked about you should easily be able to afford a sailboat. Makes one think your just yankin our chains, with no intention to get any boat. It's cool we get this from time to time, I guess you belong to some redneck snowmobile forum and wanna pick on us yachties while the track gets studded.

I am some what offended. Just because I do not have all my ducks in a row does not mean I am not serious about buying another boat. Yes, another boat !!!

I know a lot about in-land lake small fast run-abouts and small sport boats.

Just because I do not know anything about the ocean...yet, skiuseme!!

See Tera Nova... that was going to be my reply to you.

You want 35kts, but not fast. $100/hr in fuel is ok, but a sailboat is too expensive?

If you re-read your posts, you may understand why..
