A storm blew me from Sanibel to Boca

So there I was the sea my 34 sloop my Laidee and I on an adventure I was on a time schedule (first mistake) I was under way south bound from Boca Grande pass early morning heading at 4kts I was making good time but I was under motor power a diesel ..4 hours in motor slowly stops running and turns off .....I try to start it it wont so I change the oil and she starts right up I go for another 4 hours same thing ..so I keep trying to start it and shaved teeth off my starter ... Now I was gunna sail the rest of the way to key west under sail only I'm passing cape coral heading too Naples when a storm blows threw .. My sails are reefed I'm cruising at 5kts but in the wrong direction I was blown all the way back to Boca grande ....what should I have done better to continue too head in the proper heading?

Tack? Anchor?

Why would you think changing the oil makes any difference?

It's requires enormous skill fixing a pesky "comptiresion" and I don't have the necessary tools. And the special oil required to fix it isn't available in the U.S. without my third grade English teacher's permission.

If you "ment" compression, oil is the last thing to fix it but as I suspect you didn't do a compression test on all cylinders while under sail in a storm, this is silly.

Re: A storm blew me from Sanibel to Boca

I already know its a fuel issue now and in learning also my shaft seal is installed correctly I did over tighten it but then re adjusted it to the proper point ...the reason I tightened it was it was leaking so bad under power that it filled the galley with water about an inch from motor like ive said I'm here just trying to learn and not get cruicified for my lack of knowledge but I am learning I can sail some what and I will be master of my craft
