Re: USCG rescue 2 off Key west

I was in a Gulf Stream gale which lasted about 12 hours in July. I was comfortable and safe but it certainly gets your attention.

Re: USCG rescue 2 off Key west

I spotted this vessel 20 miles W, SW of S riding rock at 1500 hours Thursday 1/28/2016. Floating high and crabbing eastward toward the bank. Was actually holding a pretty steady eastward heading rolling 30 degrees side to side.

Reported to Chris Parker and Cruiseheimer net.

Re: USCG rescue 2 off Key west

I am 99% certain it this the same vessel. I was only able to approach within about 3/4 of a mile as we were sailing at about 11 knots average at the time in 30 knot S/SW winds and getting closer would have evolved gibing and didn't seem worth it.

There seems a small chance the boat was manned as it was keeping such a steady course,Mobutu with no sails and rolling so badly I doubt it. No one seems to know what happened to the vessel after the rescue. No AIS signal.

I heard a securite call from the coast guard a couple of days after the rescue that Ondego was aground near flemming key. I cannot personally confirm this was the same boat, but the CG had been putting out securite calls on the vessel being adrift before that.
