New Report on Climate Change
The Suzuki Foundation has commented on the denial attacks on the new IPCC-Intergovernmental Report on Climate Change being released at this time. The deniers have posted a number of articles in newspapers in NA and Europe. Here is a link to the IPCC web site for those of you who are interested.

Re: New Report on Climate Change
Because I have a rather pessimistic appraisal of humanity and consider our species to be relatively selfish jumped-up chimps who would rather watch a surplus of bananas rot than to share and conserve with foresight, I predict this report will have the same effect as all the others.
Zero.
The only things that might slow our "progress" at this stage will be our old friends war, famine, pestilence and death. Get us back to the two to three billion mark, and the shock to the system might... might...smarten us up a bit. That world isn't going to be pretty, however.
In the meantime, keep building those Chinese coal plants, driving those SUVs and digging inground pools in the desert. What the worst that could happen?

Really, what's the point. Those that believe already believe. Those that don't will not be convinced unless the Empire State Building is half submerged.

Re: New Report on Climate Change
I think that putting the carbon in the ground and out of the air would be a very good start to mitagating the warming trend ,man made or not, if that is what is so problamatic..There is some talk about "sprinkling"/"seeding" the upper atmosphere with something that would reflect the suns rays also ,anyone hear about this?

The point is that this is an intergovernmental study by world renowned scientists and maybe some will read it (or at least the executive summary) and see the light. Just...maybe...

Re: New Report on Climate Change
There are too many "experts" on both sides, and none of them have enough facts to prove anything.
It is ALL just speculation right now.

Re: New Report on Climate Change
And Senator Inhofe from the weather-torn but still petroleum rich state of Oklahoma, stands firm, his head planted deeply into the oily sand:
“Today’s release of the IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Summary for Policymakers proves that the UN is more interested in advancing a political agenda than scientific integrity. The IPCC glossed over the ongoing fifteen-year pause in temperature increases and did nothing to suggest that their predictions might be wrong. With climate change regulations expecting to cost the U.S. economy millions of jobs and between $300 billion and $400 billion in lost GDP a year, we can’t afford to act on politically charged media alarmism. Let’s not forget the article published in the New York Times in 1975 that reported ‘a major cooling of the planet’ was ‘widely considered inevitable.’ To me, this all appears to be business as usual.”
Yesterday, Inhofe filed two climate change related amendments to the Continuing Resolution:
Amendment 1997, would prohibit the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gas emissions from power plants. It is cosponsored by Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), the ranking member of the EPW Committee.
Amendment 1996, would prohibit the Administration from participating in international climate change negotiations unless the U.S. offers an addendum to the latest IPCC report stating that anthropogenic climate change is a scientifically unproven theory.
Oh yeah, let's not forget that NYT article from 40 years ago. That's really relevant. Either the guy is an idiot or he has no conscience whatsoever. Pretty sad either way.

Yeah, that is the kind of attack the Suzuki Foundation was talking about.

Wrong.
But thanks for coming out, and for such a constructive, erudite and well-considered comment.

True.
This climate evangelism really doesn't need to continue.
Everyone has their own opinion, and as the saying goes, "Opinions are like noses, everyone has one, and they all have a couple of holes in them."
Sail on y'all!
