Way too many email notifications

I'd thought that one email only would be sent as notice until I next visited a thread to which I've subscribed. Lately what I'm getting is one email notification every time another post is added to the thread while I'm offline. There might be dozens of notices, especially with a hot topic. Tends to fill the in box. What's up with that?

Thanks....

James

Re: Way too many email notifications

Maybe I didn't get my point across, or maybe I'm just being obtuse, but this statement is copied from one of the (many) emails

"There may also be other replies, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again." {My emphasis.}

Seems straight forward enough to me.
If not true - why state that?
If true - isn't it a tech glitch to send so many between my visits?

Re: Way too many email notifications

I think thread subscriptions are stupid. I think notifications that trigger when someone replies (quotes) to your posts, are a much more useful feature.

Re: Way too many email notifications

I do agree, it does not always make sense. I think it depends on if you subscribe to a thread vs. posting on one.

Not quoting is already annoying. I miss a lot of replies because I get no notifications. I miss even more when people don't quote me. It's at least easier to scan posts that are quoted.

If for some weird reason this forum actually listened to my suggestion, people would quote more knowing they would get notified.

Re: Way too many email notifications

I agree with zeehag. I've turned almost all of them off, and use either the right side or the New Posts.

I do, however, understand what you're explaining.

Re: Way too many email notifications

Seven responses from five people got me five more emails.

Yes, I also unsubscribe from threads - especially those that have gone adrift or have 20-squillion people saying different versions of the same thing. I even unsubscribe from threads that I've started when they jump the rails.

But.... Sometimes... Like with the Nina thread, I want to know if something pops up. Without the email function, I'd have to do a lot of searching and bookmarking and clicking around.

So - thank you for responding. Yes, I could unsubscribe from more; yes, I could turn off emails. Yes, I could use an email drop-bucket. All of those are work arounds. But did you notice that nobody actually answered the point I raised and its being a glitch?

Oh, well...

Re: Way too many email notifications

User CP
List subscriptions
Check the box at the top right (that should select all of the subscribed threads
At bottom of page check "No notification" in the drop down menu.

When you come back CF click on User CP and you will get a list of sunscribed forums with new posts.

You can also select a different method for each subscribed thread.

That way you do not have to unsubscribe.

Re: Way too many email notifications

You can adjust the settings in your profile.

From your usercp go to edit options and look for the messaging & Notifications settngs.

Change the Default Thread Subscription Mode from Instant e-mail notifications to something else. Then scroll down and save these changes.

This change is not retroactive so older threads where you got instant notifications will remain unchanged however you can view all your subscribed threads here: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ewsubscription and make changes as you need.
