Macs and Safari

FWIW when I visit CF, I now disable "Plug ins" under Safari preferences. Disabling Java Script works as well. It is the most fricking singularly annoying ad I have ever seen on a web site. It hits us biologically: We are hardwired to immediately track sudden, fast movement. I hate that -- you have to look. ad if you do not, your brain STILL processes the movement.

Anyways, disable Plug ins or Java script and he goes away.

adblock

With XP pro, under tools, manage add ons, find more add ons, go to 3rd or 4th page, download and install adblockPro worked for me.

Here's a bit of perspective from the Forum owner on ads: Ads on CF

ads

Hud, thanks for that. Please note that it's not ads, per se... I've lived with them for several years of scanning the forum every day without a problem. It's just this ad that is so annoying that I finally did something about it. So this one ad has finally caused me to eliminate all ads, which kind of defeats the forum owners purpose, doesn't it? In my case it was either eliminate the ad or stop scanning the forum until it went away.
I really found that guy obnoxious. I wanted to reach into my monitor and strangle him, and I'm not really that violent a guy. Interestingly, although he kept getting my attention, I have no idea what he was selling, nor do I have any desire to know.

Interesting -- I just realized that by doing what I did, I too eliminated alot of ads. I am not against ads -- but like Bob said, this one for me made me take care of business.

Besides, that kind of Java Script eats up bandwidth like crazy, and as I am data budget here at the Marina....

Thanks, Addblock Plus has brought back the joy of the Cruisers Forums to me. It's amazing the negative reaction that ad caused.
