I stand corrected, and enlightened.

This appears, rightfully, to be one of my less well received ideas.

Obviously, I’m just an old fashioned “fuddy duddy” who over-values language and grammar (even tho’ unable to consistently practice such).

Thanks for all the insightful, and witty, comments.

I hope the Moderator & Helpers haven’t wasted too much time on the issue.

Gord, I respectfully disagree.

In my view, respectful communication about communication is a hallmark of a healthy community.

This question, along with that of quality of photos submitted by members, comes up regularly in magazines of various Alpine Clubs. I prefer the conservative side, but many people feel it cramps their style.

Wow....If an emoticon hurts someones feelings in a forum how do they survive in society.

Gord

You put it out there for discussion and it was discussed
While no ban was implemented, perhaps a few are giving second thoughts on HOW to use them.

Inappropriate Moticons is a redundant oxymoron.

Talking about symbols, your avatar could be parsed as being offensive by the same people that are offended by .

By the standards proposed by Gord, it doesn't matter what it means to you, the author, only matters what it means to the most easily offended person that looks at it.

I vote against this type of censorship.

We're here at the permission of our censors for better or worse.
What's acceptable is only in THEIR opinion.
Personally, I don't find this whole thread having ANYTHING to do with sailing which is why I've had posts deleted in the past.
How ironic is that?
