Being tech minded I did not bother reading instructions on how this forum works. Instead just did the usual route of figuring it out as I went along, but.... that isn't working so well.
So after realizing I had been thanked (neat feature). I realized I don't know how to use this site.
After reading the FAQ and the forum 101 I still don't know what the pirate means in my subscribed threads page. Is it good or bad. Does it refer to my particular post or the thread in general?

The original poster of a thread (and each person replying) is able to attach all sorts of Smilies next to the thread title. So this is what has occurred for the particular thread you have subscribed to .
