Attachments

A number of useful lists are normally constructed in Excel, and people want to be able to share them, but the attachment list does not support excel files.

Can this be rectified

Examples are provision and spares lists

OK - we can do this

xls is going to be enabled as a valid attachment type but the newest file format for excel is .xlsx and these cannot be loaded. If anyone is running this version they will need to save their spreadsheets in the older format (which they can do).

Another option is to load these to other hosting services (box.net) and then just post a link to them or use Google spreadsheets and make them globally sharable.

I don't use Microsoft software (use Corel).
Will you expect that I'd be able to view the xls submissions?

I second the OpenOffice suggestion. It's all I use at home, now. I regularly move spreadsheets from home (OO) to office (Excel) and back with no problem. Nothing fancy, mind you. Just basic sheets.
