Gemini 105 catamaran

Hi all

I am looking to buy an older gemini cat. I saw the stuff that shows in the images where the bridge deck meets the hulls. It feels like caulking to touch.

Is that supposed to be there and if not how much of a problem is it?

Thanks

Re: Gemini 105 catamaran

That looks like a fillet intended to reduce wave slap by easing the right angle between the hull and the underside of the bridge.

Re: Gemini 105 catamaran

Thanks fgd3
Sorry, should have been more clear. I am referring to the white material at the bottom of the bulging area. Also that rusty streak is of any concern?

Re: Gemini 105 catamaran

We have only surveyed 5 Gemini's. Two of them had severe delamination in that area (starboard hulls only) with very high moisture levels and extremely dull soundings ... sounded like our little brass hammers were hitting a leather arm chair. You can't afford this boat. PS. the other three were sound with low moisture levels.

Re: Gemini 105 catamaran

Hi boatpoker

So, that is delamination? I can go back with a little hammer and check the sound. However, if it is clear that it is delamination, i will skip the trip and keep looking

Thanks for taking the time

All I can tell you from a photo is that there no reason for caulking. Be wary.

Re: Gemini 105 catamaran

I might go back and check again, before spending on the survey. Thanks for your help

Re: Gemini 105 catamaran

I spoke to the owner and he said that it is a cosmetic cover that goes over the bridge deck and hull corner to reduce slapping. Like fjd3 said above. Apparently it is not structural per owner. I will go back and check.
