Raspberry Pi fails to build "Package opencpn is not available"

Any suggestions for a work around?

I followed these instructions https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...spberrypi_rpi2

But sudo apt-get install opencpnends with this error:

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo apt-get install opencpn
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package opencpn is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'opencpn' has no installation candidate

It probably means that you're not using the correct PPA.

Re: Raspberry Pi fails to build "Package opencpn is not available"

I just had the exact same problem setting up my new Raspberry pi 4

Go back into opencpn downloads and use openplotter.

If you have any trouble downloading or opening the zip file .....download a good sd card formatter and a good unzip tool. (7 zip)

Format your sd card before downloading. Download the large openplotter .img zip file in the link. Use win32imager to send to your sd card after unzipping. Your computer will then boot up into raspberry and openplotter

opencpn is in openplotter

scroll down in link for downloads. then to openplotter starting

Re: Raspberry Pi fails to build "Package opencpn is not available"

And btw, once you get openplotter loaded it might be time to celebrate a bit before diving into OpenCPN.

It can be a pain as well if you are new to it but fun when a chart finally does pop up.

I have download charts for most of the Chesapeake Bay and the Ocean out 16 miles or so to Chesapeake Light and down to just below the Outer Banks which is my cruising area for now.

I bought this cheap HDTV as a monitor for now but I might keep it for a while because I don't plan on mounting it at first on the boat so it will take a beating.

Plan is to get a good monitor later maybe with tough screen for the boat

An android tablet works well, running the (real paid for) opencpn app with data sent over wifi from the Pi. Samsung TabA 10" 32Gb are pretty cheap these days. Handy for keeping an eye on the logged data as well.

It's set up already in openplotter, is on the headless image anyway. Might need to enable it in networks on the other image. Then just connect to the openplotter network and add a connection to Opencpn on the tablet, TCP address 10.10.10.1, port 10110. Signalk available on 10.10.10.1:3000.
