Re: The joys of owning a ketch!

Our boat near Union Island WI, Bequai WI, and two shots in the North Channel before heading out the St Lawrence.

ROXY 1984 Camper and Nicholson 58 Ketch. We made the transit Hampton to Virgin Gorda two years ago in 7.5 days. Two days of cutter and mizzen only at 9,5 to 12 knots and over 500 Miles. There was a thread The Ketch is Dead on this forum a couple years ago. It is not unusual for over half of the monohulls in an anchorage to be Ketch or schooner and also we see the occasional two masted multihull.

Roxy is on the hard in Trinidad for our second hurricane season. Power Boats and Peaks are two fine places to wait out the summer. I bike into the rain forest to see the howler and capuchin monkeys. We take tours with Jessie James (real name) the OCC port captain. - humming birds, scarlet ibis, steel pan, fresh markets, Taste of Trinidad and more. Great community and good food. Hundreds of wild parrots entertain daily.

Re: The joys of owning a ketch!

I’m restoring a 47’ Alden ketch - cutter rigged (bowsprit) and am considering different sail options. We will have the usual - mizzen, main, jib, and flying jib/yankee.

Looking also to add a mizzen staysail and possibly a gennaker or asymm.

Looking for general suggestions from folks with more experience. I have 50 years of experience sailing sloops but not much with a ketch rig.

Thanks!
