Sailing recovery-Land Sickness

After being on a boat for a couple of days my wife gets land sick. Normally for 2-3 days after getting off the boat she feels crappy. Mainly just dizzy and generally out of sorts. Anyone have advice on what might help the transition back to land easier?

Other than my suggestion which is to not go back on land so much. Although this is not our reality...yet anyway. For now we a restricted to a few trips a year.

I'd suggest reading up on mal de debarquement. Is it possible that's what ails her?

Sounds like mild depression. I have the same symptoms when I get off the boat, but they don't wear off.

The old sailor's remedy was to imbibe heavily until passing out and waking reset, kind of a "hard reboot". My wife had it long enough we sought medical help, finally found a doc who recognized Mal de debarquement. Tried physical therapy etc. only thing that seemed to work was a Valium and 10 hrs sleep.
I've had mild cases and used the old remedy, it's REALLY bad when you get in the shower, makes you dizzy.

Gosh, after >45 yrs of sailing and recognizing this phenomenon early on, I didn't know they actually put a name to this.

I love this.
I have never really been seasick, but I do get maladie du débarquement.
I find that the symptoms are much less present if you avoid enclosed spaces such as a small shower cabinet. And sitting in front of a computer will get you dizzy.
But hey, It's like a souvenir from my last long sail. So I enjoy it.

It’s when you close your eyes to wash your hair that it kicks in. It feels a little like “bed spins” remember as a kid when you would drink far more than you should have and you would lay down to try to sleep?
We call it our sea legs, my Wife will get sea sick, up until the time when we go ashore and you feel a little drunk when you walk down the dock, you feel as if it’s moving slightly, when she gets there, she is almost immune to sea sickness.
Nobody is completely immune.
It goes away in a day or two for us, slowly diminishing

What worked for me was sailing more often: eventually my body just learned to cope with it. And, for me, stopping HRT also helped, the transitions became easier.

For my wife, BONiNE tablets help. I like the rolling feeling after disembarking but I guess there is a point beyond which it isn’t fun.

Not rain shower. Warm fresh water shower in the water closet to cleanse one's body, and remove the salt from the greenies. Green waves, not political greenies. Though, could be. At any rate, the symptoms can be worst when the person closes his/her eyes while showering.

Its kinda normal.. muscle memory and all that.. I remember once after 40days at sea I climbed in the dinghy and went ashore to clear in.. tied up to the dock then collapsed halfway up the steps as the land sickness hit.. had to stay sat down for 10 minutes before I could weave my way to the office..

Whatever seasick meds work for her ON a boat? Take them a couple of hours before getting off the boat. They're just as effective making the conversion back to land.
