replacing original lagoon mooring rope

hello togehter,
does anyone know what mooring ropes Lagoon provided on a lagoon 450.
I would like to replace the mooring line but not sure about the size.

Unfortuanately we are not on the but the next 4 weeks.
I would appriciate if someone could send me the diameter of the original grey LAgoon mooring ropes.

many thanks and fair winds
Martin

I would go for:
18-20mm (the 20mm will be 20% heavier!)
about twice the length of the boat (it will allow you to go around a dock bollard and back to the boat)
Stretchable (less shocks when swell makes its way into the marina)
Preferably braided - Nicer feeling at hand.

Now wait for other views on the subject...

Re: replacing original lagoon mooring rope

Opinions always fun ! I would use 2 shorter lines of about boat length instead of one long one. I like the flexibility. About. 5/8 th. I also like 3 strand as it has much more abrasion resistance (imo). Stretchy is good. Don't forget to splice eyes in one end.
I doubt that the original lines were optimal any way

Re: replacing original lagoon mooring rope

Sorry, my mistake. One boat length is good. It will normally allow to go from boats cleat to dock's bollard and back to the cleat. This allows for slipping lines and leaving with the lines on board.
If the mooring berth is permanent you may have shorter lines permanently attached to shore fixture, by a spliced eyecor by a chain loop (preferably with a s/s spring between chain and line).
3 strand line may be longer lived but braided is better looking and nicer on the hands.

Re: replacing original lagoon mooring rope

White boat, white lines. I made all new black 16 mm double braid, look good.

Down side they leave black marks on gel coat. White or light grey is the way to go.

I would say that 16mm is rather thin for L450.
And do not forget extra lines for springs.

Martin,
The original mooring lines provided with the 450 are

22mm dia x 15m double braided nylon (light grey)

And despite some of the blah blah opinions above, these are just fine.

Re: replacing original lagoon mooring rope

The original line looks like this stuff, very heavy duty 12 plait, has a rectangular cross section, we only use them when it is going to blow hard in a Marina or leaving boat not attended in marina.

It is very good non-marking line just not that very easy to handle.

meirriba:You are right 16 mm probably is to small, just measured what I use for current dock lines ( spliced 3 years ago) it is 20mm black double braid. So the dock lines are strong enough, just my memory getting weaker.

Re: replacing original lagoon mooring rope

a long length of 10-12 mm or similar with eyes spliced in both ends extra on hand /for docking in the wind /throwing to someone on the jetty to pull the boat in or long springer in strong wind/3 strand silver floats some nylon and braid sink /the braid looks good but- in the last cyclone near miss at the marina a lot of double braid mooring lines parted the outer sheathes and were held by 3 strand silver double roping for storm setup/the rope in the reply above looks better quality

10-12mm may be a bit light to be of any use on the the L450. Fully loaded at 21 tons with the windage of a small 3 story block of flats, pulling it in in by hand in my experience will end up with, the line or dock side helper in the water. First line ashore in wind that is not blowing you on, needs to be strong enough to cleat off and pull against with motors to bring boat alongside.

You would not get many answers in the future with such attitude towards people who try to help.

Re: replacing original lagoon mooring rope

Mine was delivered with 22 mm 2x15 m and 2x20 m plus a 50 meter 18 mm line. Very supple and easy. to handle. they don't hurt your hands so much since they are so smooth.

The OP asked what lines were supplied with the Lagoon 450, not what do people suggest they use.

many thanks, this was the information I was looking for.

However the original 22mm dia lines are quit heavy and I would like to replace them with more professional lines with 18mm dia.
Either Gleistein DockFlex "Titan" 18mm (Break load:8300 DaN)
or
Liros Handy Elsatic marine blue 18 mm (Break load:8500 DaN)

@all experts: could you please let me know if the break load of this lines is appropriate for a lagoon 450 (15,5 tons ; realistically 19 tons with all tanks filled and fully equipped).

I believe the above lines with good elongation vs. break load should fit.

looking forward to your comments.

fair winds
Martin
many thanks
Martin
