Newbie to sailing what should I buy

Hi all just wanted to pick experienced sailors brains on the subject of what sail boat to purchase. I have been looking and seem to be just going round in circles. Here are some of my wants and I understand that I can't have everything so opinions of trade off's are welcome.
1 Like to be able to single hand sail
2 Like to be able to cruise blue water in the future
3 Live near moreton bay so shallow draft would be an advantage swing keel / lifting keel etc any opinions on what to stay away from or run to.
4 Steel or fiberglass. I like the idea of steel but expect that the weight would slow it down considerably.
5 Length ??? maybe around 38 foot but no idea.
6 Think probably mono hull but would catamaran be easier to single hand sail?
