Pantera La Paz Mexico

Hello I hope somebody can help. My father, Bob Smith who lives aboard his catamaran Pantera has not been in touch with his family for probably 3 months. He can usually be found in the La Paz area but travels along the coast under threat of hurricane etc. If anybody can give me any information on his whereabouts and if he is ok please please get in touch with me via email lyle-natalie@shaw.ca.

Thank you,
Natalie

Natalie,

I don't mean to be cruel, but suppose he does not want to be found?

Hurricane season is over for the season, now, it would be unlikely to have one in the Golfo de California this late, although (of course) is might happen, just wouldn't be my worry.

If this is on the up and up, and you really want to find him, go yourself, and look. Boats congregate in anchorages (and usually, people re-supply in towns they like.)

Ann my father has lived in Mexico for over 10 years and up till now he has always been in touch. I’m soliciting info from those who may know have seen him or know him. Your assumption is not correct and I can only assume that perhaps you don’t want to be found.

Have you tried "Club Cruceros" there in La Paz? They also have a facebook page. I remember your Dad and his anchored boat well but I left there some time back....good luck!

Please keep us posted - and I hope it turns out well soon. I just read an article about your Dad and Pantera, and he easily strikes one as a great person and a hardy character.

Re: Pantera La Paz Mexico

there was nothing on morning mazatlan net. but bob doesnot usually hit mazatlan as i recall. he does get to la cruz and barra/melaque.
once i recharge my telephone with illimitado i will call some friends in san blas and other areas to see if they have seen or heard him. the folks in sandblast were in la paz one week ago.

this is time of year for sail migration and many can or may hear or see what we need to hear or see.

bob is a responsible cruiser keeping in touch with his important folks, inclusive of family.

i added his descriptors to a fb group called missing and overdue yachts worldwide.

Re: Pantera La Paz Mexico

We departed the Bay of La on the 19th of October, and at that time Bob was still in the Bay of LA and doing fine. Another boat left a week or so after me, and Bob was still there. We have not seen him since, but I do know he made it through the hurricane season.

Re: Pantera La Paz Mexico

Hi Natalie2018, this is LaDonna Bubak, Rob's wife and former editor at Latitude 38 sailing mag. I've contacted Richard Spindler (founder of Latitude), who knows Bob, but hasn't seen him for a couple of years. He's going to reach out to someone actively cruising in the Sea of Cortez. I've also forwarded this thread to the current staff at Latitude 38. Hopefully enough people can get the word out that you'll hear good news from your dad soon!

We will see if anyone in the San Carlos/Guaymas area has heard from Bob lately. Will pass the word around and put it out on Tuesday's net.
