Leopard 45' Stolen in La Paz, BCS, Mexico
On Wednesday November 5 around midnight, the Leopard 45' "Tranquila" was stolen from Marina Palmira (La Paz, Baja California).
The Mexican and US Coastguards have been informed and are searching for the vessel. An American citizen named Leif William Lindstrom has been named a person of interest.
For those cruisers in the area, please keep an eye out for this catamaran.
thank you,
Peter Wiersema

Well,
That's worse than stealing a man's horse. Another idot that needs to leave the gene pool. How long does he think he can sail before getting caught. Not to mention he committed the crime in Mexico.....OUCH!!!!!!

Tranquila stolen
Gordon,
The Leopard 45' "Tranquila" was sold about 5 weeks ago, the office administrator had not changed the status to 'sold' yet.
The yacht was sold, and is now stolen.
The 2 facts have nothing to do with eachother.
Thank you for keeping an eye out, I am sure there is a reward for information leading to the recovery.
Peter

He might as well put big letters on the mainsail that say "Stolen Boat".

Joakim,
No need to check in Sweden, there are more people with the same name. Bill Lindstrom is a US citizen from the mid west US and it is a matter of time before the authorities and/or private investigators catch up with him.
thank you, Peter

It's quite interesting how difficult it is to find stolen boats. A few years ago a 57 foot Beneteau (the first one in the US ) was stolen from the dealer's docks in Charleston. The owner rented search planes etc. but couldn't find it. It was found abandoned a few weeks later in the Bahamas.

Peter,
Still missing? I hope that the boat was insured. Keep me posted. Since I could use the 10K as down payment on my new Leopard 46 I have been looking high and low here in the Colorado mountains, but so far no luck.

From Barbara Theisen at SSCA:
Quote:
Just a quick note to let you know that the Cat Tranquila was found at anchor in Mazatlan. Apparently the thief abandoned the vessel and headed for Florida, where he was arrested. We don't know all the details--and may never know the whole story. Apparently the Port Captain in Mazatlan did not notify anyone about the vessel's appearance there for at least three weeks.

Tranquila found, some pictures:
The Leopard 45' was indeed found in Mazatlan, completely stripped of engines, generator, all systems, most of the wiring / cabling, even the headliners...
A very sad story. As the investigation progress, I will keep the forum informed.
