Milwaukee M28 with winchbit - USA to Australia

Wanting to buy Milwaukee M28 Cordless 1/2 inch right angle drill (0721-21). Only available in USA, not Australia. Has anybody purchased from the USA and imported into Australia? Who did you get it from and how much did it cost?

Be sure and order extra couple of chuck retaining screws. Those are not available in Oz, either, and we did need a spare. We've found ours quite useful.

Hope someone can tell you a good source, Jim didn't remember where he got ours from.

We bought the Milwaukee M18fuel right angle driver readily available in Australia and have been using it for 3 years. In that time we have traveled Tasmania to Mediterranean so it’s done lots of work. Two 5ah batteries which we swap about every 3 days works well. Had to replace the charger in Turkey but no problem as 240ac.

I looked into it several years ago and with freight it was too expensive, so I bought a Winchrite and it has worked great

You can buy a winch driver through harken Australia (they have them in stock about$60 )
And Dewalt have a new 54v stud drill theat does the same if not better job than the Milwaukee. Lift 140kg up 11M mast in about 45 seconds. The part number is Dcd 460nxj costs about $850 including 240v double charger with 2 batteries.

I forgot if you already have Dewalt XR tools with a charger then you can use it instead of buying the double charger

I bought my Milwaukee side drill in the USA and had it shipped to South Africa, I fetched it there to mozambique where I am. I took off the chuck and had a local machine shop make me the winch spline out of stainless that screws straight onto the drill making it lighter and more compact than with the chuck on. This cost me $50.

For those that don’t want to go through the trouble and expense of specialty machining just buy the cranker, it is the same thing.

I was looking at the 18V Milwaukee drill M18CRAD-0 they sell here, looks the part, but didn't think it had sufficient torque (only 220in/lbs instead of 1000in/lbs of the M28).
Is this the same model that you are using, what size boat and mast do you have?

I had bought one second hand on ebay from America. Too long ago to remember freight cost but wasn't too bad given that freight cost from usa kills a lot of my purchases.
I have a 17m mast with a fully battened main and one battery charge will raise the sail 3 times. It will also pull me up the mast (85kg). However it is heavy which isn't a problem until you are trying to access forward on a pitching boat. I also bought a 240V to 110V transformer to run the charger which is a minor nuisance. I still see them for less than $400 sometimes including the Winchbit or Cranker. Winchbit goes into the existing chuck and Cranker replaces the chuck.
