Side Band Radio?

Dear Friends, If I purchase a side band radio does that radio also replace the VHF consul mount radio that I already have?

Thanks,
Steve B.

The simple answer is NO.

Re: Side Band Radio?

The longer answer is that a SSB (side band radio) is designed to provide long range comms (over hundreds / thousands of miles), are more complex to install, use and are way way more costly.

Your VHF is designed to provide comms over short ranges (tens of miles usually), easy to use and cheap.

There is a more extensive answer but I not going into it as I suspect it will be meaningless to you at this stage (no criticism intended), others may care to expound...

Re: Side Band Radio?

Of course, if you are simply talking about an SSB receiver only, they don't replace your VHF but are small, portable and cheap. Great for receiving weather forecasts at sea or in remote areas.
