Re: Closing Seacocks

Almost never, other than to occasionally exercise the valve or to do maintenance. That’s what keeping a boat in a livaboard marina (with friendly neighbors) and backup bilge pumps are for. With the...

Re: Coast Guard Rescues 5 from Sailboat off of Yaquina Bay, Oregon

Jim, at least according to the report, they took on the tow at 7:30am 20 miles offshore, then was met up by two other CG boats outside the bar. They decided to transfer the crew, and tow the sailboat...

Re: Coast Guard Rescues 5 from Sailboat off of Yaquina Bay, Oregon

I could see 10’ seas - in the video they recorded from the flybridge of the Coast Guard 47’ MLB, the hull of the sailboat completely disappears behind the waves. Considering the height from which...

Coast Guard Rescues 5 from Sailboat off of Yaquina Bay, Oregon

Some good footage and a great outcome for both the crew and the vessel, after the Coast Guard determines the safest course of action is for them to abandon ship and then tow the unmanned vessel to...

Re: Loss of KELAERIN Rescue of Crew June 2018

That excellent flowchart is for the SAR Mission Coordinator to launch Coast Guard assets. It’s the first part in the chain involved with a SAR case. The Coast Guard Coxswain (small boat driver), also...

Sinking of Forever catamaran

From a few of the pictures I saw of the boat breaking up, they were atop some of the only rocks on the beach, right adjacent to what appears to be the mooring/anchoring field in Muller Bay - that...

Re: Sinking of Forever catamaran

An ironic set of quotes on their social media post just before they shipwrecked.

"We’ve done two 25hrs + sails on this journey with sailing...

Re: Carbon foam agm's

PacificNW Boater has been running them on their liveaboard for close to two years now. I can't find the blog of their most recent update (they still love them), but this review video they made a year...

Re: Propellers

For me, the stock 2-blade prop just didn't have enough "bite" when the going got rough. When handicapped with a 31' length and an 18-hp motor, I found the stock two blade prop really begins to let...

Re: Propellers

Count me as another vote for a Max-prop. I put one on my '02 Hunter 326 with a Yanmar 2GM20F engine and have been extremely pleased. Pricy, but the upgrade in performance is well worth it.

Re: 3 blade Max prop vs 3 blade fixed?

On my Hunter 326 with an 18-hp Yanmar 2GM, I went from the stock fixed 2-blade to a 3-blade MaxProp. It was definitely one of the best upgrades I did for my boat. It bumped my cruising and max speeds...

Angry Yanmar 2GM20F, hard to start, won't idle

Long story short, my always reliable engine became unreliable this weekend:

-Yanmar 2GM20F, in 2002 Hunter 326.
~600 hours
-recently serviced, with new mixing exhaust U pipe & valve adjustment...

I too am an owner of a Torqueedo outboard. If I were using my sailboat as a live aboard, I'd go with a combustion engine, but for my weekend sailing use, Puget Sound tendering, and helping out with...
