Re: Yamaha 2HP Outboard Question
In future, to prevent this, try to always run the carburettor dry (close the fuel cut off, let it run until it stops). Also, Stabil in the fuel might help. Keep the gasoline fresh - when it's more... |

Re: Advice removing bolts/screws
I would have thought you'd have more luck turning the nuts, than the screws. Why can't you get a socket on them, and socket wrench? How about a ratchet wrench? |

Re: Chevron Waste Plastic Boat Fuels
BTW, I just checked out the MSDS for sodium chloride - scary stuff. Also, the MSDS for water recommends washing your hands after contact. |

Re: Chevron Waste Plastic Boat Fuels
It looks like the properties of this fuel are the same as for fuel derived directly from crude oil. That shouldn't be too much of a surprise, as plastic is made from..... crude oil. The cancer... |

Re: 12.5 V but no amperage?
Do the batteries start the engine OK? If so, that would eliminate any internal problems. It is possible for batteries to fail in a way where they will produce normal voltage without much load, but... |

Re: Sailing Sunglasses
Had 3 pairs of SeaSpecs for years. Dark, medium, and clear. Clear might sound daft, but for windy wintry days I really like them. I ending up using the clear ones for night-time cycling. But my... |

Re: Power Tool Brands - Accessibility
Surprisingly, code doesn't require a smoke alarm in the garage. Our bedroom is directly above it. Bedrooms and living spaces do require smoke alarms. I put a smoke alarm in the garage, on the... |

Re: Power Tool Brands - Accessibility
I've had all DeWalt 20V Max for 10 years or so. Never had a problem with any of them. Excellent performance and durability for the (mid range) price. I have a couple of corded Makita and Bosch... |

I have a Seaward Princess that has performed just fine, but they have been discontinued now. |

Re: Is this bad bottom paint? Results after just one month
As you can see from the chart, the prep required depends on EXACTLY what paint you had before, and EXACTLY what paint they put on this time. It sounds like you don't know the answer to either... |

Re: Feeding lines thru boom?
Just one point : if they're outside the boom, you can see what's going on. |

Re: Making smaller size cabin cushions
When I made my cushions (used the excellent how-to videos from Sailrite), I made the bases in one piece, but the backs in two pieces. Thus it's easy to reach my storage (which is behind the seat... |

Re: An Apparently Stupid Way to Make Coffee
When you buy ground coffee or roasted beans, those are also packed in nitrogen and don't go stale, until they are opened. Which is why it's a good idea to keep opened coffee in the freezer, as you've... |

Re: Mayday calls - where is that exactly?
According to the Coastguard, most DSC emergency calls don't have position data attached, presumably because most radios with DSC calling don't have the radio hooked up to the chartplotter properly. |

Re: Problems on survey and acceptance day of vessel with The Moorings
My instruments are on an NMEA2000 network, and work without the chartplotter switched on. Also, the chartplotter works without the other instruments on.... I like this degree of redundancy. ... |

Re: Broker refuses to put sea trial as purchase condition
The way I see it, a transatlantic crossing in the wrong weather could take years off the life of the boat. That's a lot of wear and tear. This is somewhat like buying a car, based on pictures... |

Re: Engine Oil Change
I wouldn't change the oil. It would be nice to make sure the oil is dry before storing the boat for the winter. Could you give it a decent run, get it up to full temperature, or is it too... |

Re: Do coast guard / customs use sniffer dogs when searching yachts?
The only viable approach, as far as I'm concerned, is an absolute 0% tolerance for drugs aboard my vessel. None, ever. Simple! |

Re: Where did I go wrong?
It's good to have the jib furling line routed such that you can put it on a winch. My main halyard winch is 2:1 and works well for the jib furling line. Maybe it doesn't count as exactly best... |

Re: Reasonably safe Crypto funds when traveling.
This Stablecoin stuff is just a bunch of hedged investments and maybe insurance, to make it appear to be linked to the dollar. They work great, until they don't, and when they don't, they crash out... |

Re: Who writes these awful things??
Lots of rubbish articles out there, whose main purpose is to drive people to a page with tons of advertising. Fortunately, my adblocker blocked them all, so they didn't make a cent out of me. |

Re: Bottom Cleaner Destroyed Boot Stripe! What Would You Do?
This is why, when one creates a thread, it's helpful to supply all the pertinent information at the start, like model and type of boat. The OP could even put it in their signature. Or is that... |
