Re: Lightening strike
I'd have it hauled and surveyed by someone who understands lightning - insurance should meet the cost - any or all of the electrics and instrumentation could be damaged. Good luck |

Re: Avoiding fog off the Portuguese coast in July
I like to go into Bayona as a first stop when crossing Biscay. A little bit further but it gets you south of Cape Finnistaire and the Rias are good sailing. I had fog on only one occasion coming... |

Re: RYA Course to skipper your own boat charters?
Probably YM offshore, commercial endorsement. Boat will need to be in code for commercial use, you'll need various insurances..... It's quite a long list! |

Re: Insuring a 40 year old yacht
Edward William and Northern Reef are probably the most notorious "insurance co" in the sailing world. Probably unauthorised still, they are cheap for a reason. Google is your best friend, there... |

Re: Fuel Consumption 75hp engine..
If you're motor sailing, 15-1800rpm will be fine and will give you a lift of about 1.5kts in boat speed while consuming about 0.4gph + my experience delivering these in the Med. |

Re: England Headed to EV to Grid as well as Grid to EV
Gas in England is not gasoline. US gas is called petrol over here - nearly $2 a litre or $8 a gallon Gas in UK means imported LNG or 'mined' from gas fields, mainly imported now as our North Sea... |

Re: country flags do you need them?
The courtesy flag should be flown higher than any other flag on the vessel, typically immediately below the spreaders. |

Re: Do customs officials routinely board/search yachts?
Being stopped at sea is virtually unknown - the stops that are made are usually "intelligence led" and result in drugs being found! I'm port you should have the ship's and crew papers available... |

Re: Novel Propeller propulsion, going faster downwind than the wind
Mind-blowing - as I understand it, it opens up the possibility sailing dead up wind, but don't ask me for a technical explanation! |

Re: B&G Zeus 2+DST 200 doesn't show STW but SOG, how can I fix this
SOG will come from GPS not DST 200, so if no depth or temperature either, DST isn't putting anything out. |

I suspect that you will get less than you may have invested. There are a number for sale between €35k - €40k. If you want a quick sale then you will have to price it aggressively. Good luck,... |

Re: What to do when a guest gets scared and wants off the boat?
Reminds me of the time I took two friends away for a few days sailing - both novices. Plan was a 80 mile cross channel overnight passage from Dartmouth (UK) to Guernsey. It was blowing a F5,... |

Re: Autopilot steering off course
Raymarine APs will generally try to put you on the track line rather than the course to destination. If you have crosstrack error it will do a hard course alteration to get you 'back on track'. |

Re: Barcelona to the Solent
