Re: Portlight Screens

I love them. They are built well. I have used mine for about 3 years. Very durable. So nice to leave portlights open for breeze and keep bugs out. They are definitely water tight with no leaks. ...

Re: Early retirement and health care for boaters

The reason it is only $22/month is because other tax payers are paying the balance of atleast $800/month or more. The true cost of the insurance is atleast $900/month. But, with low income...

Re: Small boat Gulf Stream Crossing

Give yourself plenty of window to wait for good weather. We waited 3 weeks this last spring for just marginal weather. As others have said, southerly winds, small swells. Just spend some time...

Re: Need helping restoring cockpit grate

I threw mine out and put down Dri-Dek. Just tired of constantly refinishing the wood, it is difficult to pull out and work around. But, I understand some want the wood look. Good on ya.

Re: Man overboard on Team Scallywag/Sun Hung Kai

It looks from the video that none of these guys have on a PFD, lifeline, MOB or anything. That is surprising to me. But, I have never raced at that level so maybe it is common. Just seems rather...

We decided to wait several hours and let things settle, hopefully. Plan to leave Lake Worth Inlet about 2am. Looks to be settling slightly. Boat name: Kennebeck.

Re: Sailing And Cruising. Two Different Things?

I believe it also depends on where one is sailing and/or cruising. In the Abacos, I find most just motor because most islands are close together. Then when heading to a new chain of islands, more...

Re: Which Garmin radome??

I bought the xHD and couldn't be happier with it. Good resolution, easy to install and hook up. But, have to be honest, I haven't been able to use it much.

Re: Purchasing boat - place to start

I personally would prefer a full-keel boat if thinking about crossing an ocean. That is why I bought a Cheoy Lee-Luders 36. I love the lines, they are very stout and can handle anything I get into....

Re: Alpha 3000 power consumption

My understanding is one of the strong points of the Alpha systems is their energy effeciency. They utilize 80% of the energy needed to run the system while many other systems only utilize 20%...

I like the MOB beacons that attach to PFD. Automatically go off in water. Have strobe light. Send AIS signal so you can see them on your chartplotter (if wired to receive AIS) and sends out signal...

Re: Mounting board products

Did you have any issues with the thickness for small switches? I will mount a VHF (should be no problem as just a cutout), and a panel like yours.
