As a new sailor, I would recommend you err on the side of caution. Whenever weather picks up in an anchorage one usually sees a couple of boats dragging, which endangers everyone around you. ...

Re: Semmes Yachting, broker in Annapolis. BEWARE!

Stated equipment lists are the standard. Confirmations, clarifications, etc should be completed during the walkthrough, survey, etc. Quite often a boat sale will not include selected equipment,...

Re: AIS question for the experienced

A VHF with DSC and AIS (receiving) is too easy and inexpensive not to have in 2022. Same goes for a PLB. If the skipper can't (or won't) spring for a new VHF with these basic capabilities, maybe...

Re: Would anyone be willing to help me interpret chainplate plans?

Are these replacement chainplates? Going on a 50ft. Cat? If replacement, can you just use the current chainplates as templates for the new ones? I'm no expert, but the design looks overly...

Re: Abandoning ICW (Mast Height) will I care ?

I have a 48ft monohull. It is ketch rigged, so that helps with mast height. In addition to some occasional depth challenges (6ft draft), you will also find that in many mooring fields (Ft. Meyers,...

Re: Need alternative to Pirate flag

There are positive and negative aspects regarding at least the "golden age of piracy". To really understand that period you should read a bit about the War for Spanish Succession and put pirates of...

Re: 36' Rule for Liveaboard

Minimum boat size is dependent on the marina. Some have the requirement and some don't.

Re: One off vs production (used)

A "production" boat comes with the potential assistance of an owners group you can join (a great forum for information and assistance), the likelihood of a lot of common parts availability and a...

Re: The criteria of "blue"

Recommend you buy a boat based on the type of sailing you will be doing and where. Bottom line, the boat doesn't capsize and the sails don't rip in 15kts of wind, you can't push your finger through...

Re: Which Dinghy

I can tell you what NOT to buy. An Aakron inflatable. I had one that fell apart in the storage bag while on the boat. Their customer service told me that I shouldn't store their dinghy in a bag in...
