Thanks for all the input! Fortunately I haven't been diagnosed with Meniere's (yet?) but had a bad experience with vertigo - on land!
But all the info I received helps a lot to...

Something worked! Lady's husband died and she sailed alone with 3 kids through Mozambigue channel and a storm. Story was all over the news papers in SA at the time. Don't know much about the Wildcat
