Re: No boat is perfect but!!

The Survey gives clues as to the condition of the boat.
While blisters are inevitable on older boats:
*extensive blistering coupled with moisture in decks,
*moisture damage to bulk heads...

Re: Windy.app (blue) versus Windy.com (red) versus PredictWind

I find it depends on where I am planning to sail.

I recently provided a weather resource to a fellow with a 42 ft sailboat who decided to cross the Atlantic on the northern route Nova Scotia to...

Re: Windy.app (blue) versus Windy.com (red) versus PredictWind

My use of windy is not for "Route creation". I use the online browser pro version. It is weather display software with a nice GUI. You can plot way points within a 10day distance. Identify your boat...

Re: What's This? On 4-107

You can always consider rebuilding the 4.107. I did this last year.

Regarding oil. I run the engine to heat up the oil. I suck 4 qts using a manual pump and tube through the dipstick. It works...

Re: Realistic cost to refit a 50ft cruising boat

Depends on what you start with and where/how you want to sail her.
I looked at a 50ft boat in 2015. Her hull looked good, the interior wood work was in good shape. She was listed for $93,000. She...

Re: Single Handed Docking Question

I sail solo on a 35ft Cal all the time. Docking in all kinds of weather up here in the PacificNW.

Re: What does your Class B AIS transponder do for you?

Good for you. If you cruise in areas where there is big ship traffic, more speed and displacement than your boat, AIS can be very helpful. If you cruise on lakes where small boats, or non commercial...

Re: Perkins 4.108 - is this the "mixing elbow"? Why is this adapter threaded??
