Re: Yanmar 4JH57 to B&G Connection?

Sorry... Can't help you. I never did connect the Yanmar to the B&G system.

Re: Multiple battery banks or one big one

Just one large house bank. If you have room, add a single dedicated starting battery (not to be used for house power). Add an interconnect switch so you can start the engine with the house bank if...

Short haul without re-painting

I've heard that if you haul out and the hull thoroughly dries, you have to repaint the bottom because the anti-fouling paint will be de-activated and no long work after going back in the water. Is...

Re: Negative Ground vs Positive Ground History Question.

I've always wondered why Beneteaus have not only a standard battery switch on the positive side, but also have a battery switch on the negative side too. Can anyone explain that one?

Re: 2 Standard Horizon radios on same MMSI

I'm pretty sure you will need to register one as a mobile station and get a separate MMSI number. The other can be the same as the boat, but you won't know if you are talking to the boat or second...

Re: Stability Factor for Oceanis 45

Just in case anyone is looking for it, the OC 45 fully loaded STIX is 36.9 for the roller furling main and shoal draft keel. The A2N race requires a minimum of 32, so I'm in good shape.

Does anyone know the following for a Beneteau Oceanis 45...

Re: How did you choose your boat name?

Definitely don't go with a name that requires explanation. That gets old fast!

Re: Fisher Panda Generators Any New Reviews?

I had a 4.2 kW unit on my previous boat. I used it for about 9 years. The only problem I ever had was a relay in the starting circuit blew twice. I kept a spare onboard and it was totally simple...

Re: AIS Registration, MMSI Number

Isn't failing to keep a proper watch the fault of the ship in the case you describe? It certainly isn't the fault of the vessel with the class B AIS. If the ship filters class B when they should...

Re: AIS Registration, MMSI Number

I don't know about the Boat US process, but if you go the FCC route...The MMSI number will not change from one owner to another, but the Ship Station License information does. The seller is supposed...

Re: AIS Registration, MMSI Number

Good to know. The OP will still want to have ProAIS2 because this is the tool used to set up the AIS system.

Re: AIS Registration, MMSI Number

I don't recall if it can be used to change the MMSI number, but any settings that can be changed by an end user are set using an app called ProAIS2. You need the software, a USB cable, and the...

Re: What items can/should I stockpile?

Save your cash. Go sailing as much as you can. Get on a race boat to fine tune your sailing skills, take some classes, and do more research.

Re: Gas in Diesel - help!!

If the motor starts well, has good power, and doesn't use more oil than before, you are good to go. Don't give it another thought! Sail on!

Re: Plastimo Compass Too Bright

Thanks for the ideas. Blue Seas makes a dimmer that might work, but it seems to be a bit overkill. I think I'll try the nail polish. I'd stuff some panties under the compass cover, but I'm not...

Re: Should the engine bay blower be always on?

It's not a super-yacht, just a Beneteau. My understanding is the blower removes excess heat from the ER, and also any odor from blow-by, etc. I can understand having a switch on the blower for...

Re: Should the engine bay blower be always on?

I believe if you buy a new boat today it will come from the factory with a blower that runs at all time the engine is running. My 2016 is set up this way.

Re: Should the engine bay blower be always on?

High engine room temps cause the air to be thin (less oxygen per cubic foot) and degrade engine performance. I don't recall the exact recommended max temp but I think it's 140 F. Run the blower...

Re: 4 years until we cruise, What to use the GI Bill for

I would recommend a USCG Master's license course. I got a lot out of the one I did. Who cares if you pass the physical or not? It's the learning the material that is important.

Re: Battery Tenders

If you plan to spend some time at anchor, unplugged from the dock and not under way, you may want to consider a larger charger. This will reduce the number of hours you will spend listening to your...
