I was once 'clearly not a sailor' and bit off more than I could chew. Did that stop me? No never! It made me what I am today... OK I get your point. Still one has to start somewhere and if being...

Re: Wooden Sailboat Leak Repair

STOP!! Things to do before you even think of picking up a tool. DO NOT fill it with water while on the trailer! Makes it much too heavy to be properly supported on the short trailer bunks, something...

Re: Raymarine ST60 masthead transducer circuitry

The sin/cos output is a classic synchro/resolver, look it up. As far as as the wind cup rotation being non-linear I have no idea, I suspect it has a lot to do with the bearing friction as the...

Re: Sanity check - cutting throughul for a new valve

Don't bother trying to reuse the the thru hull, if the stem broke off the rest of the metal is suspect. Haul the boat and replace with a proper flange base bronze seacock and thru hull, inspect the...

Re: Black tank access

I had a 1980 Hunter Cherubini 37 and the original factory holding tank was aluminum, bad idea. By 2003 when the boat was new to me the holding tank was like swiss cheese, replaced it with plastic...

Re: Gas to Electric Outboard for dinghy

Replaced the Merc 3.5 with an ePropulsion spirit 1.0 and couldn't be more pleased. All the advantages (and disadvantages) everyone else said. Since no gas or oil in the motor you can store it below...

Re: 72v -> 24v -> 12v

I trust what you mean by a stepdown transformer is actually a DC-DC converter, not a transformer. A transformer, in electrical terminology, is an electromagnetic device that works on AC only, not...

Re: Delaware Bay in a moderate southerly

Having done that trip several times my advice.

First put it out of your mind that you NEED to get to NYC, if the weather forecast is not so good stay put, plan a side trip, enjoy.

You do not...

Re: Repowering. Where on the US east coast?

I put a Beta 43 in my 44' Ketch to replace the Perkins 4-108. Had the yard do the heavy lifting, the rest DIY, not hard just tedious. Works great.

I'll recommend Yacht Maintenance in Cambridge...

Re: Are these deep cycle batteries? Why can't I check the electrolyte levels?

If the charger has a speed controlled cooling fan it will run faster as the charger heats up under load and make considerable noise. If your loads have increased recently that could explain the...

Re: Hot water tank. Keep it or 86 it?

Lots of opinions here based on almost no information other than you have a 10gal water heater. How do you intend to use the boat? Daysail? It's useless. Overnight/weekend? Make do without it. ...

Re: Water Tank Monitor

The Scad TM1 and TM2 monitor also work with resistive float sensors, both 240-30 Ohm and 10-180 Ohm, and we actually recommend Wema (KUS USA) sensors for use with fuel.

Here's an idea to install the tapes for the Scad monitor. Can you slide a wood batten along the side of the tank? If so cut the tape to length and attach to the batten with double sided tape. Peal...
