Re: Genoa Sheets Catching on Shrouds
I use bowline knots. they sometimes catch on the shrouds if the loop is too small, so I adjust them to be a little longer and the problem goes away. Perhaps that might work for you. |

Re: Backing up a 31 ft sail boat
Let me share a story: My wife and I sailed from Santa Cruz to Monterey last Tuesday. We had a lovely crossing of about 26 miles. Beam reaching in about 15 knot winds with a following sea. A bit... |

Re: Backing up a 31 ft sail boat
Good advice. One thing I have not seen mentioned that is VERY important: In reverse, the faster you go, the more pressure there is on the wheel. If you are not holding the wheel solidly, it can... |

Re: Uncontrollable pointing into the wind in a minor blow
Did you ease the traveler down? That usually takes care of rounding up on my Catalina. And yes, I also tighten the out-haul in heavier winds. |

Re: Is It Time to Stop Sailing?
Chotu. Good on you to see that you have to do something to address your problem. Find a really good allergist. A friend has been to several before she found one that really helps her. With... |

The Catalina 400 has a similar stern cabin. Very nice coastal cruiser. |

Re: Rock concert on a sailboat!! Possible?
My band, Cruzin', used to play on a truck every 4th of July. 2 guitars, 1 bass, drums and 3 microphones. All powered by a Honda generator. Never had a problem, played loud and long!! On your... |

Great idea!! Go for it!! If I might add some unsolisited advice: Upgrades and repairs are all a lot more expensive and time consuming than one might possibly imagine. At least that has been the... |

Our Catalina 400 is a bit smaller than you are looking at, but it does have a killer aft cabin! |

Re: Sailing Gloves? Yea or Nay?
Oh yeah, I love the glove. Not the sporty fingerless pulling on a halyard or sheeting in the jib type. Nope. I'm talking about the big, puffy, ski gloves that I wear at night, or in the winter. ... |

Re: Where to put gas generator when in use
Leaving a small gas engine running all night while you are asleep? I think that you are taking a chance that some failure could cause a fire. Boats ... over time things go wrong. I wouldn't take... |

Re: need a rear walk through stern sailboat
Many modern boats have swim steps and open transoms. I personally like the transoms that have "traditional" bulwarks with a cut out. That is to say, that the rear of the cockpit is enclosed, with a... |

Re: Single handed encouragement needed
Yes, you can do it. Today I took my 40' Catalina out for a great solo sail. My wife wasn't able to join me. It was a bit blustery, 15+MPH winds, so I reefed both the main and jib. When I'm by... |

Re: Fuel gauge wildly inaccurate, is that typical?
I agree that fuel guages are often inaccurate. However, the gauge described by JSC7 sounds different. You should get some consistancy from your gauge, and that helps when using it. I would explore... |

Re: Dumb question on storing anchor
I would epoxy some pads to the inside of the locker. Attach tie-down straps to these pads so that the anchor is held firmly in place, yet would be easy to get out in an emergency. I wouldn't like... |

Re: Moving the whole Jib system
A thought ... Can you hoist the jib up higher on the existing furler system? It may be that the jib, if it can go higher, just needs to have a longer attachment at the foot (tack). Even so, as... |
