Hi, came across a thread about sailing in your area. 3 years ago we brought a trawler and are planning on doing Canada next summer. We crusie at 7 knots. Was wondering, we will be visiting Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec. How bad is the current going back down from Quebec to Sorel Tracy- ridiculous or doable.
    thanks

    Hi Hamburking,

I just came across your post I am starting the journey of purchasing my frist new to me sail boat. I will be looking at keeping the boat in the Kingston area. I was considering the Portsmouth olympic harbour but I am open to any suggestions. Also I wanted to get a better understanding of the annual cost of the average marina fees. I am looking at something in the 34 foot range. Any suggestions, information or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Too many words for one post.

Let me know which boats you're interested in.

Would it be very difficult or costly to transport a Niagara 35 from Midland to Kingston?
Which marina in the Kingston area would you recommend?

I appreciate any advice on purchasing a boat, comments about the Kingston sailing community, sailing stories from your own experience...

    Warm regards- Lisa

    Hi Hamburking,

That's quite the range of boats you've been interested in. What is your current boat? Where do you keep her? Have you been sailing a long time?
I've been driving myself crazy with looking at boats for sale, their specs, reviews, where they are... It seems the older boats around Lake Ontario aren't set up as well for blue water cruising as those comparable on the east coast. I think the most important thing is how well the owners have taken care of them. It would simplify matters to buy a boat on or near Lake Ontario. I looked at a Niagara 35 Classic this last weekend. I wouldn't buy the one in Gananoque that I looked at, but there are a few others that seem like worthy contenders. Besides the Niagara, I'm looking at PSC 34, Pearson 35, Pretorien 35, Cape Dory 33, Island Packet 35.

    Hi Hamburking.
A few years ago (2002 maybe) a sister ship was available in Midland Ontario.
Ketch rigged, she was a beauty. Sister ship to the blue mason 33 in Kingston.
I have a picture of Astragale if you want to see her.

    Cheers

Hi everyone, I just want to let all who view hamburking's profile know that he was very helpful providing insight and offering suggestions when I was looking at a vessel on the Great Lakes. A very helpful person and I really found the information he provided extremely beneficial.

Hi Hamburking, thanks for your interesting report on Wayne's boat....I met him way back in 1996 when he was having his boat fitted out by Nick the kiwi boat builder. I definitely remember Nick fitting out the helm station and the wheel house. Do you remember Wayne paying for Nick to fix up Neil's Bayfield 32 before he sailed to Bermuda? I also remember Nick finding a very large secret compartment but keeping quiet about it. My wife and I were two kiwis with a green folk boat called Mahalko, I wonder if we ever met?
    Thanks
    Drew
