    There were 3 versions of the Cal 34. I sailed on a Mark 1. I don't know if the other versions are different. The one I'm familiar with just has a hole in the deck under the mast. If I remember right, that hole is hidden in the cabin by a decorative piece of wood that has a U channel cut in it to contain the wires. I think it was nailed onto the compression post.
